Why We Are Here
Merier is our take on a modern general store: a mix of pieces we dreamt about and created ourselves, and discoveries from brands we’ve found and loved. We’re drawn to natural materials, beautiful textures, pops of vibrant color, and gorgeous patterns. Above all, we want to share things that make everyday life a little better.
I first set out to create a women's line of clothing inspired by what I was wearing in my own closet: dresses and a few basic cotton and linen comfort pieces. I hadn’t studied fashion or worked in the industry, so turning those ideas into actual garments meant learning everything from design to manufacturing. It was an eye-opening education, and not a particularly speedy one.
Then my priorities shifted. While those first pieces were slowly taking shape, I was preparing for a baby and diving headfirst into books on nutrition and parenting. I read countless books (okay, actually I can count the books) and spent hours searching for things for myself, our baby, and the nursery.
By then, what I’d learned about textiles and manufacturing had raised the bar. I wanted natural and organic materials, but I wanted beautiful pieces too. No settling in either department.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, our Merier baby and kids’ pieces made it through manufacturing first.
For our own collection, the details matter. Our dresses are made from organic cotton double gauze with natural shell buttons. Our crib sheets use organic cotton and organic linen, and our baby quilt pairs organic linen with organic batting. Choosing every material made me notice how often plastic finds its way into otherwise organic pieces. Even if a button would rarely touch the skin, I wanted to be thoughtful about what we were putting into the world.
We looked close to home where we could. Although we couldn’t find the fabric we needed made in the USA, we found a manufacturer in Fall River, MA for our dresses and a vertically integrated manufacturer in India for our bedding and blankets.
Alongside the pieces we make, you’ll find a broader mix of things we love. When choosing other brands, we look for natural materials, thoughtful production, and opportunities to support women-owned and small businesses. Sometimes, we find something that simply fills a niche we haven’t found elsewhere.
And as our family grows, the shop grows with us. I still gravitate toward cotton, especially for pajamas and bedding, but now that the girls are a little older, we embrace sequins, glitter, and shimmer too. There’s room for both.
I love the search for things that make our lives better, and I’m so excited to share what I find with you. The pieces we carry make us smile, and I hope they do the same for you.
The more the mer(r)ier.
xo.
